Calcutta Telephones has launched four new special 3g as wll as 3g special tariff vouchers in Kolkata circle. The new internet STVs include two SMS packs and two combo packs offering good Price value for money.

These offer packs are valid till 2013 for BSNL Kolkata prepaid users, using Features both 2G and 3G. The new plans are already in use, and will be available till January 30, 2013.

details of STV includes 21 offers 1000 local SMS to any network for 30 days, while STV46 includes 1000 local and 1000 national SMS to any network with validity of 60 days.

Combo pack STV 55 offers 150 local minutes of  talk time to any network, 150 local SMS to any network and 150 MB broadband data. The benefits will be valid for 15 days to any smartphone,. STV 103 adds 300 local minutes to any network, 500 local SMS to any network and 300 MB data.

Documents for Tatkal tickets: 2012 new rules for proof of identity


Under the new Tatkal rules, tickets will be issued only after producing one of the eight prescribed proofs of identity, according South Western Railway (SWR).

A self-attested photo copy of the proof of identity of any one of the passenger travelling shall be invariably attached to the reservation slip. The following documents are required:

Voter photo identity card issued by the Election Commission of India; passport; PAN Card issued by Income Tax Department; driving licence issued by the RTO; photo identity card issued by Central/State Government like Aadhar card; student identity card with photograph issued by the recognised school/college for their students; nationalised bank passbook with photograph and credit cards issued by banks with laminated photographs.

A photo copy of any one of the above mentioned photo ID proof(s) of identity must be self attested and attached to the requisition slip at the time of reservation.



          




Passengers get Tirunelveli-Chennai Central Weekly Specials for November 2012


Train no. 06570 special train runs between Tirunelveli and Chennai central.  This leaves Tirunelveli on 29th November, 2012; 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th December, 2012; 3rd, 10th and 17th January, 2013 at 4.00 pm.  The train will reach Chennai central station at 9.20 am the following day.

Train No. 06749 leaves Chennai Central at 10.30 pm and reach Tirunelveli the next day at 2.00 pm. This service will be available on 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th December, 2012 and 4th, 11th, 18th January, 2013.

Tirunelveli-Chennai central weekly special will has six second class general compartments, 10 sleeper class bogies, 2 Ac three tier, one Ac 2 tier and 2 luggage cum brake van coaches.  The stations at which the special trains halts are Vanchi Maniyachchi, Kovilpatti, Sattur, Virudunagar, Madurai, Dindigul, Tiruchchirappalli, Karur, Erode, Salem, Jolarpet, Vaniyambadi, Ambur, Gudiyattam Katpadi and Arakkonam.  For Train no. 06750, there is stop at Perambur also.



Trains from Chennai Egmore station to Tuticorin Weekly Special for Passengers


Train no. 06035 is the train that runs between Chennai Egmore-Tuticorin via Villupuram, Mayiladuthurai etc.  This service starts from Chennai Egmore on 27th November; 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th December, 2012; 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd January, 2013 at 10.45 pm.  This train will reach Tuticorin the following day at 12.50 pm.

Train no. 06036 special train from Chennai Egmore-Tuticorin will start from Tuticorin   on 27th November, 4th, 11th, 25th December, 2012; 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd December, 2013 at 6.15 pm and reach Chennai Egmore the next day at 7.20 am.

Now AC and first class passenger pay more service tax charges


Six months after the Trinamool Congress forced roll back in railway fare hike, the finance ministry imposed 3.7 per cent service tax on freight charges and on AC and first class passenger fares.

The tax will apply to tickets issued in advance. Travelling ticket checkers will recover the service tax from passengers on the train or by the booking office before the train starts off.

In the case of cancellation of tickets, the service tax amount will not be refunded by the railways, a statement said.

On concessional tickets, service charges of 30 per cent will be charged on the fare being paid by the passenger.

"The amount of Service Tax collected from passengers will be deposited with the Ministry of Finance as per procedure. Finance Departments of Zonal Railways have been instructed for proper accountal and remittance of Service Tax amount to the Government," the notification said.


BSNL bill Pay facility on platform at railway station


Now if you are travelling by train and wish to pay your telephone bill (landline or cell phone) the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has for the first time provided a Customer Centre facility at the Vijayawada Railway Station just outside platform No.1.
The all-in-one counter will be of great public utility, he said and asked the public to take advantage of the facility even if they were in a hurry travelling to some place.
People in Bhavanipuram, Ashok Nagar, and Poranki are not getting the BSNL signals properly as power cuts was putting pressure on the battery of the BTs and some of them were not getting alternative power due to non-cooperation of the people related to premises, where they have been installed.
Krishna District will get 90 additional cellular towers in the coming five months and 60 of them (both 2G and 3G) would be installed in Municipal Corporation limits.
The BSNL has introduced a Rs.450-per month plan in urban areas for landline through which the subscribers can call unlimited time any landline in India and for Rs.600 any BSNL landline or cell phone.
Same facility from rural areas will be available for Rs.350 and Rs.500, Mr. Chrisosthom told The Hindu.

E-ticketing service now allow only normal individual users to book tickets


In the backdrop the allegations of the misuse by travel agents, the new service will only allow individual users to book ticket, reports PTI.
e-ticketing service of IRCTC, the new service by Indian Railway will have no role of travel agents and commercial organizations. Only normal individual users will be allowed to book on the portal,” the report quoted a Railway official as saying.
In the recent times there had been reports of travel agents blocking tickets to sell them at a premium. And the license of many agents were cancelled following the allegation.
Owing to public resentment IRCTC even barred travel agents from booking tatkal tickets during peak hours on its portal.

AC double decker train on Delhi-Chandigarh route soon

To manage growing number of passengers between Delhi and Chandigarh, Railways has decided to start an AC double decker train between the two cities.

The 12-coach AC double decker train with fire alarm system is expected to be pressed into service by February next year,

Besides, Railways is mulling to introduce electrical multiple units (EMU) train sets on Delhi-Chandigarh and Delhi-Amritsar routes to reduce the travel time between these cities,

Train sets are expected to run at a high speed of 130-150 km per hour, thus reducing the travel time.
The Railways will also invite fresh tender for conducting pre-feasibility study of the 450-km long Delhi-Chandigarh- Amritsar high speed train,

New Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal represents the Chandigarh constituency.
AC double decker with improved passenger-friendly design and capacity of 120 passengers per coach will run at 110 km per hour speed, he said.



weekly holiday Ajmer-Ahmedabad Special trains to run from November 26, 2012




The Indian railways have started a new weekly holiday special train between Ajmer and Ahmedabad in view of the vacation rush. This train would start its first journey from November 26, 2012 and carry the passengers til December 26, 2012.

The North Western Railway official has confirmed that the Ajmer-Ahmedabad Holiday special train is scheduled to depart from Ajmer from November 26 to December 24 on Mondays at 09.20am with an arrival time of 07.00pm at Ahmedabad. It would return from Ahmedabad on Wednesdays at 06.05 in the morning from November 28 to December 26 and would reach Ajmer at 03.55pm.

This train would at Byawar, Marwar Junction, Phalna, Sirohi Road, Abu Road, Palanpur, Siddhpur, Uunjha, Mehsana, and Sabarmati Stations.

Apart from the Ajmer-Ahmedabad Holiday Special,  Agra-Jaipur Shatabdi Express and Bikaner-Delhi Sarai Rohilla would run from November 28 and December01, respectively.

Railways to raise price of Rail Neer


 Railway Ministry has given the clearance to a proposal to increase the rate of packaged drinking water Rail Neer from Rs 12 to Rs 15 per one litre bottle.

 The price of the 500 ml bottle will be increased from Rs 8 to Rs 10, as per the decision.
 IRCTC, which manufactures and supplies the packaged drinking water in rail premises, had sought the ministry's approval for revising the rate of Rail Neer and we have given the approval for the same, said a senior Railway Ministry official.

 According to IRCTC, the demand for Rail Neer at railway stations has increased steadily and there is a huge gap between the existing production capacity of the plants and the demand.

Railway Passengers to produce any one proofs of identity in any reserved class


One of the Railway passengers booked on a ticket for undertaking journey in any reserved class will have to produce any one of the prescribed proofs of identity failing which all the passengers will be treated as traveling without ticket and charged accordingly. 

This provision shall, however, not affect the existing provision of Tatkal scheme where during the journey, the passenger is required to show the original proof of identity indicated on the ticket. 

The number of prescribed proofs of identity have been increased from nine to ten by adding following identity card to the list of prescribed proofs identity:- 

“Photo identity cards having serial number issued by Public Sector Undertakings of State/Central Government, District Administrations, Municipal bodies and Panchayat Administrations”

Tatkal tickets cannot booked during the special time of 10-10.30 am To help general people


The Indian Railway has introduced several measures to ensure Tatkal train tickets reach the general people. Tatkal tickets cannot be booked on internet reservation system during the special time of 10-10.30 am for next day trains.

All travel agents including those of IRCTC will not be allowed to book Tatkal tickets between 10 am to 12 noon from counters as well as on the Internet. There will be separate queues and counters for Tatkal buyers.

Booking counters will now open at 10 am instead of 8 am, the day before the journey from the originating station. "No normal ticket will be issued during this time unless there is no passenger for the Tatkal tickets," an Eastern Railway release said.

CCTVs are being installed at booking centres as well. One will have to carry self attested identity proofs for buying a Tatkal ticket. The Tatkal revamp comes after the IBN network exposed how touts were cornering these tickets.

Online Tatkal booking made easier:
The Indian Railway has also put in place measures to make online Tatkal bookings easier. High capacity database servers have been installed. The Internet bandwidth has been increased from 344 mbps to 450 mbps.

Web service agents have been permitted to book only one Tatkal ticket per train per day on the internet only after 12 noon. Individual users can now book only two tickets between 10 am and 12 noon

Western Railway upgraded to 12-car trains introduced this week


Western Railway gift Suburban railway Twenty-six nine-car rakes that have been upgraded to 12-car trains will be introduced this week. Two more 12-car trains and another 15-car train are to be put into service by December-end,

The railways said 11 services will be operated between Churchgate and Borivali, eight between Churchgate and Andheri; four between Churchgate and Bandra, and one each on the Mahalaxmi-Andheri, Bandra-Borivali and Churchgate-Malad sections.

 Kumar also announced a new ticketing system to ease the crowding, among measures to improve the quality of commute for suburban travellers.

The railways said that the conversion of 26 services from nine-car to 12-car will create additional room for more than 38,000 commuters. With these new services the number of 12-car services on the Western Railway will go up to 1,116 services a day. There are 14 other 15-car services also on the suburban network.

The total number of services currently is 1,250 and is expected to rise by 55 by January-end.   

Railways decision to run more than 500 special trains in festive season


Gearing up for upcoming festive season, Railways has decided to run more than 500 special trains to Patna, Lucknow, Jammu and Amritsar among other cities to clear extra Puja rush.
  
Additional trains will also be run for other cities including Gaya, Varanasi, Darbhanga and Udhampur during the festival period.

There will be total of 572 special trains which will be pressed into service by Northern Railway to clear additional rush during the festive season, said a Northern Railway official.
  
The tri-weekly Anand Vihar-Patna-Anand Vihar festival train will stop at Danapur, Ara, Buxar, Mughalsarai, Allahabad and Kanpur stations in both the directions.
  
Special trains will also ply on other routes like Firozpur-Saharsa-Ambala, Ludhiana-Saharsa-Ambala and Amritsar-Barauni-Amritsar during that period.

Eastern Railway to run 124 trips of special trains with extra coaches


To clear the rush of passengers during Diwali, Chhat and other festivals, Eastern Railway will run 124 trips of special trains in November to popular destinations across the country.

In addition to this, extra coaches will be attached to regular trains moving towards popular destinations.

Special care is being taken to ensure that these trains as well as regular ones run smoothly and passengers do not suffer due to congestion along the routes.

This created thousands of additional berths and seats to facilitate a very large number of additional passengers.

Many people need to travel during the festive season. While some are tourists, others return home from their places of work.

"Eastern Railway also many special trains in October to clear the extra rush of passengers during Durga Puja and Navaratri.

Railways extends ticket booking period to 120 days


To cope with the demand for tickets, the Railways has decided to increase the advance reservation period from 90 days to 120 days from March 10.
